2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct direction.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete message from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, he starts with us on next week.
His leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to come.
David
